>> BN50X ADVENTURE BACKPACK //
// We wanted to create a backpack that filled the gap in our current backpack range. Keeping valuable features from our previous bags and adding more, much more! Bigger sizes, better comfort systems, better fit, more sustainable materials and better functionality. We also wanted to create a Kickstarter campaign that brought the backer along for the journey from design concept and samples to the final product //
>> WHY KICKSTARTER? //
Beyond Nordic started on kickstarter back in 2019, our first campaign for our BN001 Hiking Pants. Since then we have used kickstarter to launch a number of our best selling garments. It has been a great way to connect directly to our customers and supporters. Most importantly crowdfunding keeps us free of outside investment. This allows us to focus on our vision and produce outdoor gear we want to use.
>> THE DESIGN //
We created our design with the style and features we wanted to have in our backpack. We then put together our initial design ideas into a tech pack for our production team to review and produce an initial sample for us to test out. From there we make adjustments and changes to improve the bag, then making another sample until the bag is perfect.
// HIGH PERFORMING MATERIALS
We included materials from our Terraflex™ collection, high performing materials designed and manufactured to give you the optimal experience, whether you are climbing rock faces, hiking through forests or camping. In this backpack we wanted to feature our recycled 200D nylon ripstop fabric in combination with recycled 600d GUCCI nylon for extra durability against extreme wear and tear.
// ADJUSTABLE CARRY SYSTEM
We wanted to create an adjustment system that is simple to use, suitable for all body types and provides optimal support. Our Trekfit system does exactly that, it boasts multiple adjustment possibilities for fine tuning the perfect fit, giving the user optimal comfort through any activity.
// BACKPANEL
The Trekfit backpanel has a velcro adjustment for easy adjustment on the fly. Four different sizes adjust how high the backpack sits on your back while the ERGOFOAM™ padding provides comfort. Vital for the health of your spine when carrying heavy loads for long duration activities.
// LUMBER PANEL
Our ERGOFOAM™ has been strategically placed throughout the carry system for for supreme comfort. Our ERGOFOAM™ lumber panel also relieves pressure, providing comfort for the users lumber region, essential for protecting your lower back when carrying heavy loads.
>> THE SAMPLE //
Receiving the first sample for a new product is always exciting, holding a tangible product in your hands and seeing the ideas and drawings come to life. It’s also perfect for testing new functionality. Sometimes things are not as good as the inItial expectation and need revision. There are a lot of things we liked on this sample. There are however a number of things we noticed straight away that we needed to change.
After our initial visual inspection we discussed some of the immediate changes we wanted to make to the feel and design of the bag. But first we needed to go out and test the bag in real life situations, pushing it to it’s limits and seeing how well it performs during different activitIes and weather conditions.
>> MAKING CHANGES //
After examining and extensive testing we decided to make some changes for the follow up sample. Some are functional changes and others cosmetic. We have listed here a number of the adjustments we made.
>> Increase size of reflex markings to match spacing of fixed attachments
>> Darker tone for the reflective logo icon
>> Increase size of fixed attachment loops, currently too small
>> Add dual zipper opening for side pocket, zippers located at the lower end when closed
>> The length of the webbing attachments needs to be longer
>> We want to change the length of the access point for the lower internal compartment
>> Slightly shorter zip puller ties
>> Whistle clip to be turned the correct way around
>> Change the colour of the webbing and trims to Pantone Unexplored 19-5005 TCX
>> Add waterbottle pocket
>> Remove extra Airflow tag
>> Adjustment for the belt buckle needs to be smoother
>> Change the outer material for the waist belt pockets from mesh to 200D Ripstop, add waterproof SBS zippers with zipper hoods
>> IN PRODUCTION //
// We worked together with the factory to resolve our modification requests. They then produced a PPS (Pre-Production Sample) for our final approval.
Once we received the PPS we carried out some final checks and tests to ensure we were satisfied with the product. Once checked the PPS was approved.
After the PPS was confirmed production started immediately. Once production has completed a third party quality control inspection will take place, once passed the production will then be packed and prepared for shipping. The final shipment is scheduled to arrive at our Stockholm warehouse beginning of summer 2026.
The BN50X Adventure Backpack will be available in two sizes 40 and 60 litres and will feature RECCO® reflector technology //
