Men's Mid-Layers

Discover Beyond Nordic's collection of men's mid-layers, engineered in Scandinavia for hikers, trail runners, and outdoor enthusiasts. From lightweight merino hoodies to technical fleece sweaters, our mid-layers deliver the perfect balance of warmth, breathability, and freedom of movement – whether you're ascending a Nordic peak or navigating your daily commute.

Why Choose a Mid-Layer for Outdoor Activities?

A mid-layer is the engine of your layering system. It traps warm air close to the body while allowing excess heat and moisture to escape – keeping you dry, comfortable, and at the right temperature during stop-and-go activities like hiking, skiing, and climbing. Beyond Nordic's mid-layers are engineered with Scandinavian conditions in mind: rapid weather changes, variable intensity, and the need for gear that adapts as fast as you do.

Merino Wool vs. Technical Fleece – Which Mid-Layer Is Right for You?

Merino wool mid-layers excel in temperature regulation, natural odour resistance, and next-to-skin comfort. They're ideal for multi-day hikes and travel where washing isn't always an option. Technical fleece mid-layers dry faster, provide excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, and are perfect for high-output activities where quick moisture management is critical.

Q: What is a mid-layer and when should I wear one?

A: A mid-layer is the insulating garment worn between your base layer and outer shell. It retains body heat while allowing moisture to pass through. Wear a mid-layer during cool-to-cold conditions, or whenever you need adjustable warmth during activities like hiking, skiing, or trail running.

Q: Are merino wool mid-layers better than fleece?

A: Both have strengths. Merino wool naturally regulates temperature, resists odour, and feels soft against the skin – ideal for multi-day use. Fleece dries faster, is lighter, and offers excellent warmth-to-weight performance for high-intensity activities. Beyond Nordic offers both so you can choose based on your activity and conditions.

Q: Can I wear a mid-layer on its own?

A: Absolutely. On milder days or during urban commutes, a merino hoodie or fleece sweater works perfectly as a standalone piece. The Scandinavian-inspired design ensures they look as good in the city as they perform on the trail.

Q: What sizes are available in Beyond Nordic mid-layers?

A: Our men's mid-layers are available in sizes XS through 4XL, ensuring an inclusive fit for all body types. Check individual product pages for detailed size guides and fit recommendations.

Q: Are Beyond Nordic mid-layers sustainable?

A: Yes. Many of our mid-layers are made with recycled polyester and responsibly sourced merino wool. We also offer a RE:NEW programme for extending the life of your gear. Sustainability is a core principle of Scandinavian outdoor design.

Q: How do I care for my mid-layer?

A: Merino wool mid-layers should be washed on a gentle wool cycle with a dedicated wool detergent. Fleece mid-layers can be machine-washed on a standard cycle. Avoid fabric softeners and tumble-dry on low heat. Visit our Wash & Care guide for detailed instructions.
