PRODUCT JOURNEY
>> BN011 CASUAL PANTS //
We set out to create a pair of versatile everyday pants that feel comfortable all day, move naturally, have a clean design and work across different seasons and activities.
>> WHY DEVELOP THESE PANTS //
Many people move through different environments every day. You commute, walk, travel, and spend time outdoors — often all within the same routine, but most pants are designed for only one purpose. Some are too technical for everyday wear, while others look good but don’t handle movement, weather, or long days very well. We wanted to remove that compromise.
A pair of reliable pants that are comfortable without unnecessary features or visual noise.
>> THE DEVELOPMENT TIMELINE //
Even though they may look simple, the development and production process for these pants requires far more time and attention than one might expect. Below, you can see the journey behind the product — and the work never truly stops. Continuous development is part of our DNA, we’re constantly refining our gear to make it even better.

>> DESIGNING FOR VERSATILITY //
The development was a process of refinement rather than reinvention.
We started with the idea of everyday comfort from morning to evening. How should that feel? Material choices and fit were key in creating the comfort we were looking for.
Looking natural in different settings would also require the optimal material and colour selection.
From there, we worked on fit, how do people move? How does material selection affect this movement? How can we make all of these elements work together?
There are always many questions and scenarios raised when developing a product. Sometimes answering one question raises another.
The initial thoughts, testing and research were put into a design and samples then made. Here the real testing started, we found out what really worked and what didn't. Sometimes during this stage we have to go back to the drawing board and start again.
Through out the whole process one thought stuck with us during every stage, not to add more, but to make fewer elements work better.
>> CONSTRUCTING COMFORT //
We carefully considered construction details, how the garment fits together, seams and thread size. All of these impact comfort and movement, we wanted to kept it simple improve daily use without standing out visually.
For natural movement adding pre-bent knees felt like a very easy choice to make. Opting for an elasticated waist section offered flexibility during movement and comfort for different body types.
Keeping things simple we decided to use elastic leg hems for a no fuss, secure and controlled fit.
Our aim here was to keep the overall construction simple but affective to aid the clean design aesthetic we wanted from these trousers. Removing unnecessary features allowing the material and fit to do the work intended.
>> GETTING THE RIGHT BLEND //
Our key features of these pants were comfort and movement, we needed a material that could support these whilst maintaining durability. We tested a number of different materials, fabrics and blends to try and achieve the perfect material. We used 65% recycled polyester, 32% cotton, and 3% spandex to achieve the final material. A blend that served its purpose, an excellent mix of breathability and durability while still delivering the lightweight, soft, flexible features we needed.
As with many of our garments we added an eco-friendly Rudolf Bionic Eco DWR finish to provide some light water repellency.
We then needed to decide on a colour that worked both out in the wild and during the everyday. We tried a number of different variations, our market research and even internal voting pointed in the direction of Pantone 18-0312 TCX Deep Lichen Green. Inspired by moss and forest lichen, it is a muted, earthy tone that blends naturally into both urban and outdoor environments. It’s understated, versatile, and easy to combine with other garments.
>> HIGH-PERFORMING MATERIALS //
When developing the material for the BN011 Causal Pants we decided that the blend should be added to our TERRAFLEX™ range.
What is TERRAFLEX™ ? It is Beyond Nordic’s collection of high-performing materials and fabrics, researched, designed and crafted to deliver an optimal experience during high demanding activities.
>> MANUFACTURING //
Once we completed our final testing it was time to go to production. Here our PPS sample is taken and duplicated on mass, every detail at this stage is incredibly important to ensure quality and consistency.
When the process is complete the production goes through a 3rd party quality control. Only when passed will the garments be packed and shipped to our warehouse here in Stockholm Sweden.
>> PANTS YOU KEEP REACHING FOR //
The BN011 Casual Pants have become an established core style within the Beyond Nordic range. They are worn for commuting, travel, casual city days, and light outdoor activities — often becoming the pants people reach for most — because they consistently work.
Looking ahead, the BN011 are not about constant change. We may refine the fit based on real use and customer feedback, however new materials or features would be introduced carefully and only when they add clear value.
The goal remains the same: to create a pair of pants that stay relevant are worn often, trusted daily, and improved thoughtfully over time.
>> THE NEXT STEP IN THE JOURNEY //
In early 2026, we invited our community to shape the next chapter of the BN011 Casual Pants by voting for a new colour-way.
We presented four options — Asphalt Grey, Off Black, Sepia Brown, and Taos Taupe. After a strong successful engagement across our media channels, Asphalt Grey received the most votes and topped the charts. Based on the level of engagement and results we decided to move forward into production with the new colour.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING PART
We don’t create products in isolation. At Beyond Nordic, development is an ongoing conversation — shaped by feedback, testing, and real-world use.
The BN011 Casual Pants are just one example of that process. From the first prototype to choosing the next colour-way, each step reflects shared input and continuous refinement.
The journey continues — and we’re building it together.
>> ASPHALT GREY //
The first development samples of Asphalt Grey arrived, marking the next step in bringing the community’s chosen colour to life. We evaluated fabric tone, texture, and how the colour interacts with light and movement. Even small variations can affect the final result, so each sample was carefully reviewed to ensure the shade reflected the original vision — a clean, versatile grey that works just as naturally in the city as it does outdoors.
Fit, detailing, and material behaviour were also re-assessed to maintain the balance of comfort, durability, and everyday performance that defines the BN011 Casual Pants.
This phase is part of our continuous refinement process. Before full production begins, we make sure every element meets the same standards that make the BN011 a trusted everyday essential.
